Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Luvu, Inc. (“Luvu,” “we,” “us”) collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use Improv Arena (the “Service”). Because Improv Arena records your voice, please read the section on voice recordings and biometric data carefully.
Important: Improv Arena is part of a voice-data business. We license your voice recordings and related metadata to third-party research labs and commercial partners for AI training, in exchange for the rewards described below. In some U.S. states this may be considered a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information; we honor opt-out rights and Global Privacy Control signals where required. You can withdraw from the program at any time in Settings → Privacy or by emailing support@luvufit.com. By using Improv Arena you are participating in this data-licensing model.
1. Information we collect
- Account information, your username, the display name and email address from your sign-in provider (e.g. Google), and an account identifier.
- Onboarding information, your age, gender, country and approximate (city-level) location, and time zone.
- Voice recordings, the audio you record during battles, and data derived from it such as transcripts, emotion labels, and acoustic features.
- Gameplay data, prompts you respond to, match results, ratings you give and receive, coins, streaks, and ELO.
- Technical data, device and browser type, IP address, app version, and basic usage/diagnostic logs.
2. Voice recordings and biometric data
Improv Arena is built around your voice. When you record a performance, we collect the audio and generate derived data from it, including transcripts, emotion and tone classifications, and numerical acoustic representations (such as speaker and emotion embeddings) used to rate performances and operate the game.
Some of this derived data may, in certain U.S. states, be considered biometric information (for example, a voiceprint). Where that is the case, we collect, store, and use it only with your consent, which we obtain during onboarding. We do not sell your biometric information, and we do not use it for advertising. We retain voice recordings and biometric-related derived data only as long as needed for the purposes described in this Policy, and we delete or de-identify it when you delete your account or within the period set out in Retention below, whichever comes first, unless a longer period is required by law.
3. Improving AI and working with research partners
Improving the technology behind Improv Arena, including the models that transcribe speech, recognize emotion, and rate performances, is a core part of providing the Service. To do this, we use your recordings and derived data to develop, train, evaluate, and improve artificial-intelligence and machine-learning models.
We also share and license short voice clips (typically 15–30 seconds) with trusted research and AI-development partners who build voice and emotion technology. Before a clip leaves our systems we strip it of your name, username, and account identifiers. A clip may be accompanied by your gender, your age, and an approximate, city-level location — never your name or anything that directly identifies you. We do not sell your name or contact details, and we do not sell voiceprints or other biometric identifiers. Partners are bound by written agreements that restrict use to the agreed purposes, require appropriate safeguards, and prohibit any attempt to re-identify you or to re-link clips to an individual.
Consenting to this use is required to start playing and earning rewards, and you provide that consent during onboarding. Because we provide free access and rewards (coins, and where offered, cash-out) partly in exchange for this data, this is a financial-incentive program under California law. As a good-faith estimate, the recordings a typical session produces are worth roughly US$0.10–0.16 to us (about two minutes of audio), based on market rates for licensed speech data; we set coin rewards from that value (1,000 coins = US$1.00), so the rewards you receive are reasonably related to the value of the data you provide. Our partners may be located in the United States or other countries. You may withdraw from the program at any time by turning on “Do not sell or share my personal information” in Settings → Privacy or by emailing support@luvufit.com — you can keep playing, coin earning pauses while it is on, and you keep coins already earned — or by closing your account, and you have the rights described in Your rights. Note, however, that clips we have already shared, and AI models already trained on them, cannot be recalled or deleted once they have left our systems.
4. How we use your information
- To operate the game: run matches, rate performances, and calculate coins, streaks, and ELO;
- To create and secure your account and prevent fraud, cheating, and abuse;
- To develop, train, and improve our models and the Service (see section 3);
- To communicate with you about the Service and respond to support requests;
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
5. How we share information
- With other users, your username, profile details, and recordings are shown to other users for rating and gameplay.
- With service providers, hosting, storage, authentication (Firebase/Google), analytics, and similar vendors that process data on our behalf.
- With research and AI-development partners, as described in section 3.
- For legal reasons, to comply with law, respond to lawful requests, or protect the rights, safety, and property of Luvu, our users, or the public.
- In a business transfer, in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.
6. Data retention
We keep your account and gameplay data for as long as your account is active. We retain raw voice recordings only as long as needed to operate and improve the Service and, for biometric-related derived data, no longer than three years after your last interaction with us or until you delete your account, whichever comes first, unless a longer period is required by law. Data used to train models may persist in those models or in de-identified form. We retain payout records as long as required for tax, accounting, and fraud-prevention purposes, even after account deletion.
7. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access, correct, or delete your personal information;
- Receive a copy of your data (portability);
- Withdraw consent — turning on “Do not sell or share” in Settings → Privacy stops future partner sharing and pauses coin earning while you keep playing; withdrawing consent to voice processing entirely means closing your account;
- Opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information, and limit the use of sensitive personal information, to the extent those concepts apply;
- Not receive discriminatory treatment for exercising your rights.
Automated systems. We use automated systems to rate performances, score audio quality, calculate rewards, prevent fraud, and select clips for licensing. If you believe an automated decision has had a legal or similarly significant effect on you, you may request human review by emailing support@luvufit.com.
To exercise any of these rights, email support@luvufit.com. We will verify your request and respond within the time required by applicable law. Where permitted, you may use an authorized agent to submit a request on your behalf (with proof of authorization), and you may appeal a decision on a request by replying to our response.
California (CCPA/CPRA)
California residents have the rights described above, including the right to know, delete, correct, and opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell biometric information. To opt out of any sharing that may qualify as a “sale” or “sharing” of other personal information, use Settings → Privacy or email support@luvufit.com. We honor recognized opt-out preference signals (such as Global Privacy Control) where required.
The personal data we collect falls into these California categories: identifiers (name, email, account IDs); customer records; sensory information (your voice recordings); biometric information (voice-derived features, where applicable); internet or network activity (usage and device data); geolocation (approximate, city-level); demographic information (age, gender); and inferences (emotion and performance labels). We collect sensitive personal information (voice-derived biometric data) only to provide the Service and the data-licensing program you opted into; we do not use it to infer characteristics beyond those purposes, and we do not use it for targeted advertising.
EEA / UK (GDPR)
If you are in the EEA or UK, our legal bases for processing are: your consent(for voice/biometric processing and AI development), performance of a contract(to provide the game), and our legitimate interests (security, fraud prevention, and improving the Service). You may withdraw consent at any time, lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority, and object to certain processing. Data may be transferred to the United States under appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
Illinois and other biometric-privacy states
Where state biometric laws apply, we collect and store biometric-related data only after consent, we do not sell or lease it, and we follow the retention and deletion schedule in section 6.
Japan (APPI)
If you are in Japan, we provide your voice clips (with the accompanying details described in section 3) to third parties, including recipients in the United States, only with the consent you give during onboarding. The United States does not have a comprehensive data-protection law equivalent to the APPI; recipients are instead bound by the contractual safeguards described in section 3. You may request disclosure, correction, or cessation of use or of third-party provision of your retained personal data at support@luvufit.com, and you may lodge a complaint with the Personal Information Protection Commission (PPC).
Mexico (LFPDPPP)
If you are in Mexico, Luvu, Inc. (address in section 12) is the data controller (responsable), and this Policy serves as our privacy notice (aviso de privacidad). Voice-derived data may qualify as sensitive personal data; we process it only with the express consent you give during onboarding. Sharing voice clips with AI research partners (including in the United States) is a secondary purpose: you may refuse or withdraw from it at any time in Settings → Privacy or by emailing support@luvufit.com and keep playing, though coin earning pauses because rewards compensate that sharing. You may exercise your ARCO rights (access, rectification, cancellation, opposition) and revoke your consent by emailing support@luvufit.com, our designated personal-data contact; we will respond within the statutory deadlines. Complaints may be directed to the Secretaría de Anticorrupción y Buen Gobierno.
8. Minors
The Service is for adults: you must be 18 or older to create an account, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. We do not include minors’ data in our research-partner sharing program. If you believe someone under 18 has provided us information, contact support@luvufit.com and we will delete it.
9. Security
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information. Game-state and reward data is managed on our servers and is not writable by clients. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. International users
We operate from the United States. By using the Service, you understand your information will be processed in the United States and other countries that may have different data-protection laws than your own.
11. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the Service or by other reasonable means and, where required, obtain your renewed consent.
